Symmetry-allowed nonlinear orbital response across the topological phase transition in centrosymmetric materials

چکیده

Nonlinear optical responses are commonly used as a probe for studying the electronic properties of materials. For topological materials, studies thus far focused on photogalvanic electric currents, which forbidden in centrosymmetric materials because they require broken inversion symmetry. In this Letter, we propose class symmetry-allowed inversion-symmetric insulators with two doubly degenerate bands. We consider specific example such response, orbital current, and show that sign response reflects ${\mathbb{Z}}_{2}$ index, i.e., current changes at transition between trivial insulator phases. This is illustrated models insulators: Bernevig-Hughes-Zhang model $1{T}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ phase metal dichalcogenides.

Orbital phase transition in 2-d pyrochlore

We present here correlation driven orbital Mott transition in 2 dimensional pyrochlore lattice. We study a model Hamiltonian in which we take Hund’s coupling between itinerant and localized electrons apart from the coulomb interaction. In the weak coupling limit, we calculate zero temperature susceptibility under random phase approximation and find the model in para orbital phase. In strong cou...

Unconventional transformation of spin Dirac phase across a topological quantum phase transition

The topology of a topological material can be encoded in its surface states. These surface states can only be removed by a bulk topological quantum phase transition into a trivial phase. Here we use photoemission spectroscopy to image the formation of protected surface states in a topological insulator as we chemically tune the system through a topological transition. Surprisingly, we discover ...

Topological Phase Transition in a Molecular Hamiltonian with Symmetry and Pseudo-Symmetry, Studied through Quantum, Semi-Quantum and Classical Models

The redistribution of energy levels between energy bands is studied for a family of simple effective Hamiltonians depending on one control parameter and possessing axial symmetry and energy-reflection symmetry. Further study is made on the topological phase transition in the corresponding semi-quantum and completely classical models, and finally the joint spectrum of the two commuting observabl...

Topological defect transformation and structural transition of two-dimensional colloidal crystals across the nematic to smectic-A phase transition.

We observe that topological defects in nematic colloids are strongly influenced by the elasticity and onset of smectic layering across the nematic (N) to smectic-A (SmA) phase transition. When approaching the SmA phase from above, the nematic hyperbolic hedgehog defect that accompanies a spherical colloidal inclusion is transformed into a focal conic line in the SmA phase. This phase transforma...
